The Latest Edition of Mining History should have arrived in the eager hands of P.D.M.H.S Members. It has an account of the archaeology of the 1794 Newcomen Engine house on the south side of the Stoney Middleton to Peak Forest Turnpike at Watergrove Mine near Foolow. It also has an extensive account of the history and extent of the mine. It was the campaign to save the chimney of the slightly later Fairbairn engine house which led to the formation of P.D.M.H.S in 1959.

An excellent read ! I once had the idea that the first Newcomen engines in Derbyshire were in the coalfields

if eight out of ten cats all prefer Whiskas
Do the other two prefer Lesley Judd ?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
