Has anyone been here recently? Myself a couple of friends went on a daytime scope of the big doors and surrounding areas last week to discover motion sensors have been setup around the doors, hidden under rocks. This triggered an extremely loud alarm and within 5 minutes we had security on us asking if we'd found any ways in... We replied no, they said good then sent us on our way

If somebody could please PM or email me any entry information for Middleton mine it would be much appreciated, trying for weeks to find a safe entrance, some guy the other day said he'd heard rumours that its was all closed up due to some MoD involvement of some sort... :guns:

As Paul said it is very closed. The security have alarm monitors in there cars and there is cctv on the middleton entrance including a maned cabin and a VERY large Polish gentleman.
I live locally and know this place very well. The security was posted there after repeated vandalism to the entrances in Hopton qaurry and middleton. There has been a little landscaping going off in the Hopton qaurry.
I would steer well clear,Plenty more interesting trips to do in that area.

To put it bluntly, you're twelve months too late. A year ago, the door was open at the Hopton end but since then, it's been well and truly secured. I understand the MOD have taken a lease on it following Omya's departure.

From what I've heard, the MoD have taken over the site and there have been motion sensors put inside the mine aswell as what is outside.
I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

When do I get my soapbox, I need to rant on about some b***cks

Well that's that then! Thanks all, good to have the confirmation at least! Maybe one day it'll open again, wonder what the MoD would want with it...

Most of the activities must be at the Hopton qaurry end. There was some heavy machines in the qaurry before Christmas doing a touch of landscaping. Nothing much happening on the middleton side.

isn't drakelow a public accessible place? How could anyone expect to get away with growing a smelly plant

Drakelow is private - you need permission to get in. And perhaps the dodgy area is behind a locked door or two (of which there were some last time I visited)

Chris.

The drakelow farm was in two separate tunnels that were rented from the museum side of things.

Man! - I'm glad I got down there on my bike when I did. Sounds like this ones gonna be out of bounds for a while.

I wonder what they've done with the sinister 'Teddy Bears Graveyard'.
