Blimey! When were we there last, Mike? Spring this year? Were there parts of the complex that we couldn't get to this time or last?

Haha oh dear. An abandoned public toilet in Kendal was turned into a cannabis farm I think, I can't be certain, but I think I heard about it on news somewhere.

Shame about that if no access in near future, wanted to have a look there.

we had a free run of the place unless there was a tunnel blocked off but don't think so this has clearly happened in recent months I get the impression from the reports the weed hadn't hit the market so presumably immature plants?

Someone must have bubbled them. That place has got to be the perfect place for having a grow on the go. Damned sight more profitable than the money to be had from charging an entrance fee for the museum! :flowers:

Seem to have misplaced my map right now but I remember thinking at the time that something didn't add up, as if there was a section that we couldn't get to....dunno? Or I wonder if that timber framed structure with the double glazed door on it was part of it? It was half built when we were there.

EDIT: here's a photo of me standing in it, wondering what the hell use a double-glazed conservatory was 200' underground. Duh! Now I know 😉

I was on Mike's last trip.

As I recall, we entered via T4.

Either T1 or T2 had a nice new wall across it where it met the cross tunnels. In said wall, was a nice high security door (new).

I wondered at the time what all that was about.

I guess now we know!

I don't think there were any other parts we couldn't access.

That's my thought too. I remember thinking at the time that the structure was odd. It was hardly going to be a secure structure as the walls were just stud-partition, so why the double-glazed door? Unless it wasn't meant to be secure, just nice and warm and humid, a bit like a greenhouse...

Security alot of the time is about making people THINK they cant get in, stud wall would offer good insulation and most people arent going to go and try and break through a stud wall they will just assume they cant go there.

As with double glazed doors, good insulation and heat retention.

It was in the section of 'rented storage' so seemingly nothing to do with the 'main' tunnel site.

Where did you read this? I watched the clip but it doesn't really show anything other than police milling about which is the classic news shot when you haven't been granted access.

Grow rooms are designed to keep the light in... an underground greenhouse would be about as much use as it sounds 🙂

I received this message via a sub brit member to one of the volunteers at Drakelow - had it slightly wrong as I had not posted any photos as you all know

Mike

"That picture is our new store room, we completed it the last work party. it is fully enclosed (no roof though) and has see-through glass doors, considering it is next to Adit A, the main entrance to events, it would be a **** place to do it with glass doors to show everyone what was happening. Unfortunately I have to **** on Mike's chips and say it is simply a store room. We took the metal shelving from the store rooms off Tunnel 4 round to it and the last work party (which I wasn't at) they put all the equipment and spare parts from the water tank room into it. The reason it has a locked door is so no one can nick the ladders and valuable items we use to renovate the place. I have attached a picture of what the store room looked like before we got the shelving into it. This is what we plan on (planned on) doing for the entire nuclear side, before this 'new' room was here, there was an existing room, same size, albeit with no PVC doors. The walls had holes in and it was collapsing, we rebuilt it and that is (was) the plan on all the other walls in a similar state of disrepair"

Must cost a fortune to grow canabis in damp cool tunnels, how would they get electric cables there ?
if eight out of ten cats all prefer Whiskas
Do the other two prefer Lesley Judd ?

Indeed which is why they often steal the electricity to power the grow lamps. In other cases they've been caught when the electricity company investigates why a line is drawing more current than it should be and finds an extra cable attached to the line. It seems in this case they may well have been stealing electricity.

Out of more general interest:

In more recent reports they put the figure at around £70million.
