I went back recently and this site seemed to have been obliterated from my 1997 visit, anyone know the story here?

It's a shame it gone.
Has the rest of the site gone as well?
I might see about getting up there in the near future - it's been on my list of areas to do for a while

I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

When do I get my soapbox, I need to rant on about some b***cks

Fascinating surface feature but the whole lot seemed to have been trached when I went last time, I will dig for an up to ๐Ÿ˜ž date photo!

Sadly yes, it was bulldozed quite a few years back so all that's there now are the sleepers over the shaft. I'm not sure of the exact date it was done, but I'll ask.

Wasn't there some sort of cave-like opening in the crag at the back of the photo. with a shaft inside? I was up there years ago and then more recently for a further look but the place was almost unrecognisable.

Yes there was a feature like that but it was full of fence posts and barbed wire as I recall.

When I saw it the shaft was (nearly?) accessible, with a boulder in an awkward place (?). Last time I was there I don't even recall seeing the crag. Sorry but I cannot say just when these visits were made but it is fairly irrelevant now as it has all gone. Any ideas why it was bulldozed?

In 1971 all the mines on that side had bee hives on them and we went down them all. the cap on nickalum shaft was put on in november 1919 by the farmer a lovely old chap 92 years old then. he was the mine owner and and the last man to work in it.
this mine was left with all the eqipment stil inside .bonny lad mine in the next feild was allso full of stuf.sadly when the old man past away his son started useing the mine shafts as rubbish tips .the last time i went in 1993 all the shafts were full of shite .this man was nasty evil git teling us to get off his land with a loaded shotgun in his hands . ๐Ÿ˜

Sorry to hear that.... Looking at my pics its got to have been bulldozed between 1997 and 2004 me thinks.
No idea why it was bulldozed as they even trashed the retaining wall, probably for stone!
