I know its not mining but every now and then something nice comes along that I hope a few of you will be interested in! The GCR is currently in possession of a very nice GWR auto trailer and motor fitted GWR Small Prairie tank. The coach has come from the FOD Rly and is a fantastic restoration job!!! Auto trailers were the forerunners of our DMU's negating the need to run the locomotive around its train, the auto coach having a driving cab.... Great fun with this today...

Nice pictures Iclok especially the atmospheric last one.
Is that a bell above the driving cab of the auto coach, if so what is it for?

It was a signalling bell that warned the Fireman and Guard they were gonna depart... kinda like the buzza code on a modern dmu.... Great things these auto trains, I got interested in them when I worked at the Railway Tech Centre on Test Car 1 which was converted from one. We had her repainted for the GWR 150th in GWR livery. đŸ™‚ She is happily preserved too! đŸ™‚
Talking about atmosphere, this was 8F 48305 at Loughboro last night!

Err sorry ICLOK, the gong was to warn people of the approaching train (when in "push" mode).

Nice photos. I always like those auto coaches. They used to have 5 at the original Dart Valley Railway. Not sure which of the two railways has them now though. Shame they spoilt them by adding corridor connections etc! A strange definition of the word "preserve"!! :guns:

oh well you live and learn... cheers John... not a prob I was told what I wrote. Nevertheless great coaches.... I thought they had gangwayed trailers any way to make up 2 car units? Sure I've seen em in old RCTS railtour footage in Wales!

Just to get my oar in. I actually did some painting and sanding on that autocoach at the FOD railway. Bloody cold days as I remember them. Good to see it getting a wider audience.

Are GCR running the autocoach in 'auto' mode?

Might be worth a trot over if they are..... đŸ™‚

Oddly yes! The panelling was there but over painted and the driving end was complete less the controls, however the vac gauge was there. Its down at the MRT here I believe in Ripley... must go and look... it certainly still had its steps and mechanism... glad you like the film... can't spot owt in it out of period... it could be any were on GC/GWR Jt in the late 40s!
