I've been to the Eyam area on a few visits for some long walks of the various mines in the area. I've not been to this site, like, are there any access issues getting to see the site?

Access ... i couldn't possibly comment! Ahem... I was on a walk and got lost and just wondered upon it... "Gosh an Engine House I said to my daughter... that was luck"... 😉

It must be the air or something when your out walking, 'cos the amount of times I've gotten lost and ended up at an interesting mine site - I must learn to look at the map more often. 😉 And sometimes I think 'surely this must be CRoW land, so I'm ok'

Its a bu**er ain't it... I often wonder how I turn out to be so lucky when lost... I blame the creases in my maps they look just like PF from a distance.... of about 10 feet!! 😮 :lol:

Many many years ago in a far off land a certain individual well known in the mining community had his OS maps all marked with neat little crosses all representing mining sites.

One day he spent hours searching in vain for the site denoted by the neat little cross on his map, and all in vain.

Sitting down on a rock he studied the map, looking closer at his little cross he scraped off with his finger nail. It came away, it was a dead fly.

Strange this as life often is... a lurker friend of mine (lurkers watch but don't post) reminded me of an incident at New Engine Mine just today... he was unaware I'd recently visited!

He asked if I remembered when he wrote off his car at New Engine (I wasn't there)... I remembered him virtually writing his car off somewhere in the 80s but did not remember it was at New Engine!! He related the story that he went up to the engine house to take his pics with a couple of mates when his light meter battery went on his camera, he went back to his car but it was gone... panic!!!!.... he ran down the lane to towards a farm you can see off the mine to find a phone to report the theft but found his car instead... his handbrake had packed in and the car had run down hill, passed the turning for Ladywash and was on its side in the cutting thru the would below about 100yds away, they rolled it back onto the wheels and just about got home to Derby... the chassis was twisted and the car was written off..

Any other takers for similar stories?

Me again
Working back from Perranporth towards Cligga with aluminium ladders for the high holes, was greeted by an exited crowd.

"That was quick, the helicopter only went over 5 minutes ago, and we didn't think that he saw us"

One of their crowd had climbed up to an adit, and good as gold could not get back down.
They would not believe that it was just coincidence me being there.
