Paul Chandler's the best bet I would think. Neither of the shafts are still connected with Good Luck IIRC.

The lidded shaft sounds like the Goodluck escape shaft which is laddered, not sure about the other but the Via gellia is full of small shafts lurking in the undergrowth!
You can contact Paul and the Goodluck society through their website - http://www.goodluckmine.org.uk/

The lidded shaft is definitely the Goodluck second exit shaft. It is (or was) locked from the inside.
The shaft above the road was explored in the early 1970's but from memory was blind and not really on the line of the Goodluck workings which were surveyed at about the same time. Once this became apparent interest was lost.....

There are other shafts about on the hillside but although all open ones were explored, no others ever connected and were well short of the right depth. Indeed, the second exit shaft had to be cleared of a large amount of deads (about 18 months worth @ one night a week!) all drawn out via the chute and tipped outside the adit.

Many thanks for your reply, I noticed a substantial subsidance on another shaft in the same area.where the footpath leads up to ' new road'.above open level fields, cromford side on large spoil tip. large dead ahs tree on ege of shaft, clearly visible on google maps /satellite. shaft has dropped 2.5 M.
happy hunting. Owd Git.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
