Leonard Hogg was General Manager at Bestwood Colliery in the 1950s He was a friend of my brother and myself as we both sang in Bestwood Male Voice Choir which Len founded as a Colliery Choir in 1953 although neither of us were Miners my brother a Bank Manager retired and myself an Engineer in the
Commercial Gas Industry (Bryan Donkin Chesterfield and Matlock) and Chord Chemicals Water Treatment Plant Manufacturers and Service agents my base being Haarlem Mill Wirksworth where in 1720 my 5XGRandfather had his Fulling Mill and where in 1770s Sir Richard Arkwright built the Mill which by 1810 was called Haarlem Mill

Len died in recent years in his 80s He was Life President of the Choir

Many members of my family Uncles and cousins were Pit Deputies Managers and Miners at Bolsover Colliery and at Clipstone Colliery a distant kinsman Sir John Plowright Houfton being a Director of Collieries in the North East Derbyshire and Notts Coal Fields his cousin Percy Bond Houfton being the Architect who designed all the Pit Model Villages
