Isn't it nice just occasionally when where you live throws you a nice surprise.... I knew the site existed but had never stopped for a look having passed it many a time. The pit yard is nicely complete bar the winder and is a nice reminder of colliery sites pre NCB era and modernisation. The modern era is also recorded by the re-use of the pit baths and offices. The colliery I am told is of a typical size for a private owned pit of the Ilkeston / Heanor area and is as such listed. Some nice features and buildings remain which has accorded it a grade 2 listing.... just loved the date stones!
