Hi, I am trying to obtain a copy of a training film made for the BCB
between 1970 and 1971. The film contained my grandfather and I wish to
give it to my father as a suprise for his 60th birthday.
My grandfathers name was Joseph Hill.
I hope that you can help or point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
Lisa.

Do you mean the NCB, by any chance?

A lot of the NCB training was done in the Durham coalfield, so my work colleague tells me who used to work there.

This YouTube collection includes a number of NCB training films from the 1970s.

Click on "show all" bottom right.

If you have trouble finding them, let us know and I'll post up the direct links.

Look for Whestoe colliery (in 4 parts), and there are some other films as well.

The Coal Board Film Unit archive was transfered to the British Film Institute when British Coal was wound up, they also hold the copyright to a lot of this material too, details can be found at http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/organisation/7781  its worth a look...

Regards,

Darran
