Sad to see this place derelict. I remember installing the office/weighbridge computer system in 1981, it seemed forefront of technology stuff then. It was networked back to the head office in Wolverhampton so they could see at any time how much product was leaving site.
Very spooky place though at night, when you're the only person on the site - wonder what elfin saftey would say about that nowdays!

I blew a rock face up there as a kid and remember it all working... asked my Dad today which quarry it was and it was MP, my Dad was a customer! Like you say even though quarrying in wirksworth was destructive it was an amazing busy vibrant place to see at full production. I loved the conveyors and the noise!! had not been back for years so like you I found it very eerie!
🙂

Quite envious, the biggest round I've ever fired is about 6 100g sticks - about the size of the primmers in a quarry blast!
Was an erie place at night though, I recall stepping out of the weighbridge at about 2 in the morning for a smoke (when I used to). The wind was whilstling through the conveyors etc steel work & loose tin sheeting rattling - I was the only person there & it was a very quick smoke!

I used to go on trains into power stations and quarries at night..... odd places at night when so busy during day. But the worst quarry I ever got stuck in was at Shap on a windy wet cold night in Cumbria when our loco failed... never left the cab it was so bleak and un-nerving!
The cloud dropped and it felt like a scene from "The Signalman" up there in the night..... strange what you think you see in the half light..... brrrrrr 😉
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh Creeper!!!!!
