Would Oxfordshire count as midlands then?

When I was lorry driving, Oxfordshire came under the Swindon (South west) depot as opposed to our hams hall (Midlands) and Enfield (London and south east) depot's. Does this help?

Oxfordshire is still classed as the midlands. However, if the South west editor wants it, you can have it, less work for me then!!!!

I still have a stack of work to do in all of the midlands counties....

Are there any mines in Oxfordshire, then?

very few, in fact very little of any interest. There are several opencast, shallow gravel pits and i think there are some very small iron mines on the Northants side. I havnt really dug to deep with Oxfordshire yet. 😞

There was ironstone extracted around Hook Norton near Banbury. Also "Slates" were quarried/mined around Stonesfield near Woodstock. These "slates" are in fact a flagstone from sandy/oolitic limestones of Jurassic age, not to be confused with the Welsh (real!) stuff.

Are there flint mines, the ones around Reading were in Oxfordshire before they changed the boundaries a century ago.

Oh no, boundary changes!!!!

I have had a scout round Hook Norton, there are a few marks on the surface but found nothing underground. I think it was all surface work?

I only asked as there's a couple of Chalk pits to add from there.

Not a great deal in Oxfordshire,

Though you would have to include Rock Edge, Headington, old opencast coralian limestone workings

Lat 51 45' 13.4" N
long 1 12' 17.1" W

Before you all ask I used to play there as a kid, that's how I know about it.

Also worth checking out is :

also woodeaton quarry.

this article lists what minerals can be found in oxfordshire:
http://www.oum.ox.ac.uk/learning/pdfs/oxmin.pdf

there's a few others I'll do some digging and see what I can find out later.
