Looking for help! The Carrshield village group are asking for historic pictures of the Barneycraig and Scraithole dressing floors, mine shops, level entrances etc.

Anything taken before 1990 would be very useful. Would be great if anyone knows of pics taken in VMZ times. It is said that the Coalcleugh fluorspar was processed here in the early 1950s - anyone got any pics of that plant?

Pictures of the witherite operations would be also welcome.

The pics would be used as part of a display in the Barneycraig mine shop and also in an outside interpretation panel. All copyrights would be acknowledged and due credit given on the displays.

Hi Pete,

If any of Dad's are adequate for your needs then use them, I quite like the one of Bob Guthrie looking dynamic while pushing the bogie into Scraithhole and perhaps he deserves some recognition for the graft he put in to several North Pennine mines over the years, even if his route finding wasn't always perfect

Thankyou. I will take a look at the gallery and then ask you to mail some high-res versions. OK?

Hi Pete,

The digital versions are only about 1mb, could be less than you need. I suspect I have the 35mm originals lurking somewhere but the best I can offer is to redo them on a pocket scanner which might get them up to 2mb. Don Borthwick has somewhat better kit as he was kind enough to do a couple of the Teesside mine photos, perhaps you know alternatives?

Pete, have you got in touch with John Piggott yet? I'm guessing there will be some relevant photos in HMP's archive.

Ok - I have a flat bed scanner which will copy slides to high res. However, I suggest that we wait until the local group have made a selection and then consider whether a high res scan is required.

I like the one of Bob at Scraithole.

Thanks I have a file of low res B&W images from Harry that Dave sent some years ago. Will have a look.

Hi Pete,

If it's the same low res dropbox file (about 200 photos) that Dave sent me, I think the only one I came across was the one of Dad sat in the drainage culvert at Barneycraig.

I have the X-rated version but that's best used to scare horses rather than the residents of Carrshield and thereabouts :-[

That's fine Pete, I'll just make sure I've got the slides to hand.
