Hi There,

I have recently moved to Hemsworth in Yorkshire, and have been told that this was an old mining community. Can anyone point me in the direction of any mine maps for the area?

Thanks.

https://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=6&lat=53.5301&lon=-1.4285&layers=101&b=1&point=0,0  so if you want to get an idea of what surface features were there. Select the 25" series and then zoom in to the area you're interested in and click in a square to see what scanned maps there are available. There are also various maps uploaded to Aditnow, if you know the specific colliery you're interested in look it up on the mines search and see what's there in terms of photos and documents, you can also search for nearby sites and see what they've got. If you're interested in the extent of underground workings then the abandonment held by the Coal Authority are your best starting point.
Follow the horses, Johnny my laddie, follow the horses canny lad-oh!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
