Recent gleanings from Welsh Coal Mines Forum etc for updates on the last four south Wales collieries:

Aberpergwm has just given the workforce (it employs about 70) six weeks’ notice and looks likely to close unless a buyer can be found – which must be slim in view of the failure of Unity to find a purchaser after a few years on the market.

Danygraig No.4 employs five men and is coaling.

Nant Hir No.2 reopened by Metal Innovations Ltd (or its sister company Thomas: Croft Mining Ltd) and employs 22 men and is coaling in the Red Vein.

Unity, after a lengthy mothball period, switched the power off a few weeks ago after failing to find a buyer; it is thus flooding and the chances of reopening must now be slim.

Sad news about Aberpergwm etc.
Whilst all this (plus UK Coals demise) is going on it is pretty astonishing that these projects are even being considered (coking coal notwithstanding) will be interesting to see how far they get

The first of them is just the latest of many to come with all the answers to overcome the well-known problemsof the Cumberland coalfield - and like their predecessors they'll come unstuck. But there will be some living well off the investors' money until the time comes when reality strikes.
