I'm new here, so just a quick into... I'm Elaine, I am a Research Associate in the School of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University.

We would however love to hear from anyone who works for or manages/owns an SME (self-employed to 250 people). So if you are not a miner/don't work for a mine and would still like to take part, the link is above.

So… a bit about the project…
I am conducting a research project with colleagues at Loughborough University into how people know how to do their jobs and Occupational Safety and Health knowledge in SME-Micros.

We are recruiting people from across different sectors, construction being one of them, and so far have had participation from over 40 companies.

The survey is very quick and can be done over the phone (01509 228816) or online, however, if companies wish I can also make site visits.

We are interested in learning about how people know how to do their job, but also how people know they are working in healthy and safe ways. The aim is to make recommendations for the future and disseminate best practice.

We have had a positive response to the research and I have had participation from; physiotherapists, fishmongers, builders, miners, train drivers, copywriters … amongst others.
