I have recently found three photographs relating to the 'NEW COOKS SHAFT' taken in 1947. One shows a magnificent pumping machine with a gentleman standing beside 'his' machine with a spanner in his hand - name below the photo is J. H. ANJOVE - [ this maybe Angove ]. Does anyone with knowledge of this mine has any details relating to this man.

Angove will be the name but it is a very common Cornish surname. New Cooks Shaft is now part of a Heartlands heritage centre in Pool and is part of a small mining museum. South Crofty is still a mine to this day and is seeking new financial backers at this time and have moved to the bottom of Brea Village. If you can post the pictures on the site someone else may be able to help more.

New Cooks is not part of heartlands - that is the old Robinsons/Palmers/Bickfords shaft site. NCK is on the other side of the road where the headframe is currently being refurbished.
