Thanks for that Sinker, I thought I was losing it!!, my second one came from a charity shop who could not work out what it was worth ---£2.00!! - and I had to bid them UP to that :)

Yes mine is an older type with the naff battery box. But for the girlfriend who occasionally comes and just needs something reliable it will do the job 😉

I am going to look into getting an oldham lamp for myself or a duo. I want something with mega brightness and a decent battery set

Yours is like mine...the better design in my opinion. Belt or helmet mount, you can take up the slack in the cable by winding it around the grooves in the battery box. 99.99999% waterproof in my experience. The older type has a "flattish" 4.5v battery similar to old-fashioned doorbell batteries. Showing my age.... ::)

IIRC, the flat 4.5v was only 3 AA,s strapped together with a couple of copper (or brass) strips soldered on.

Oldham battery case with NiFe cell inserts, one of Mr Mikes retro light inserts, Job done!, although carrying a battery on a belt seems to be out of fashion these days.
( I cannot understand this, if your hat falls off at the top of a pitch, you lose everything, if you have a belt pack, it just hangs there awaiting retrieval!)

If you are looking at the self build route I can sort you out with an Oldham headshell and cable

Petzl Zoom batteries:

The 4.5v flat batteries have larger cells than AA (actually B cells) and thus a considerably higher capacity. It's all on:

Ohh that would be something I would be interested in Rick, we definitely need to catch up with a beer soon. Let me know via email what you want for it and we'll sort something out
