I had nowt much to do today, so I took a crack at cleaning up a couple of the photos in the Allenheads gallery.

Hope nobody minds me tweaking their shots a bit...;D

Cheers and have a Happy Christmas

Hi Yorkshireman,

Your work makes the waterwheel much clearer, don't fancy having a go at the mistier one as well do you?. Can I ask that you put a reference to my dad, JF MacPherson on your improvement as he took the originals

I am rather hoping the photos from Gin Hill shaft may pull others out of the woodwork as I doubt very many were taken in the relatively short time it was clear of water. It would be also quite good to know who the person in the photos is, suspect I'd feel an idiot if it was me but i don't think it is.

Regards

Hi Jim,

I took a look at the misty one - there's not much to be got out of it. It's in the gallery now - with the credit you requested.

Many thanks Yorkshireman,

Just squandered some pennies on a bridge camera, somewhat better than the 15 year old Olympus point and shoot I had, so I will need to play with photoshopping and the like in due course.

Pity about the other pic but it may be the only other one in existence, hope not but as it's getting on for 40 years since BSC pulled out and the water came back it may just be.

Jim

Past request, including direct requests to individuals, have not revealed any photos of Allenheads wheels. You may have the only photos

I just don't know whether there are any photos in the Harry Parker Collection.
However, I am struggling with the huge amount of archive material which has arrived in the PDMHS library over the last year or so.
We have around 40 albums of HMP B & W photos in the library.
There are an unknown number of HMP colour slides and B & W. photos in the care of Mike and Mave Luff.
There are around 9,500 colour slides which we have from Lynn Willies of mining site from Matlock to Rajasthan..
As of last autumn there is a huge collection of archives from Doug Nash and Op. Mole. This includes 60 boxes of Kirkham field notes and other material, which I have now deposited at the Derbyshire Records Office. There are also around 50 photographic albums and some 50 volumes of field reports, plus many other documents. There are countless newspaper cuttings, photocopies, leaflets, books, diaries, slides and all sorts of other ephemera.
There are other slide collections I know off, such as H. Chatburn's photos of Dirtlow Rake before the opencasting.
I have crates of Lynn Willies's archaeological works in Rajasthan, Rio Tinto, Kestel Tin Mine in Turkey, the EBA copper mines at Timna, Isreal and at Consolidated Mines, Cornwall.
I'm swamped with archive material and could do with some help!!!

I've made some progress on the HMP North Pennine photos you sent via DropBox and I'll send the excel file with notes so far in a couple of weeks, so there's a pinprick's worth of help. As regards archive stuff I have every sympathy, my dad's slide collection is only a few hundred and even the ones that are annotated are taking longer than we had hoped to sort.

By the way Merry Christmas

I would doubt if there are any pictures of the two Allenheads wheels in HMP's collection!
The reason is simple.
A fixed ladder lead into a sub level, and then an lector on ladder to the engine chamber.
Since Harry, would avoid electron's like the plague, he simply would not have gone down there.
Mike Luff, Dave Politt, and John McNeil, were others who probably took pictures down there.

I've just uploaded, what I think are the last, a few more photos John MacPherson (plus a couple of Harry Parker snaps) took of BSC Beaumont Mine when there was access to the various parts after they dewatered it. As things stand they appear to be the only record of what was made available at the time and presumably will not be seen again.

Given the number of people from NCMRS, PDMHS and others who visited while BSC were operating maybe some other photos are still lurking buried in a box in an attic or garage, if not that's your lot folks.

I think as time progresses, as has already been posted, we will see more pictures, of these wheels.
As I remember one, wheel, was on top of a lower one, and I was told, I think, there were 5 in total!
Each, using the water, from the one above to help, dewater, the mine.
Something, incidentally, B.S.C. could not carry out'

Theres an interesting album of Allenheads photos (although some are Whiteheaps) on the Friends of Killhope page for those who dabble in the darkside on Facebook.

Thanks for the correction ebgb, it was yet another Harry pic with no info on and I'm afraid I just looked at the terrace and assumed it was the same as at Allenheads, a closer look shows windows on the end terrace wall not on the one at Hope. I will reallocate later. do you recall any of the names of the anons?

Do you mind if I add your dad's name to the other pic?

Additionally it also, probably, identifies one or two more Harry pics with no info as being at Hope Mine.
