Can you describe the route?

Did you go higher than the new ladder installed next to the hanging rotten one?

The ground up there is very unstable and not often visited.

Yes Roy we went as high as you can go you've done a very good job with the new ladders ?? the said box was through the hole in the wall positioned on very loose out of reach timbers= I wasn't sure if I should post the picture of it as it already isn't on here:thumbup:

Right

You get bits of 'bang' all over the place, assuming that this is what you are referring to. Nenthead comes to mind. But now its useless as its all dried out. I rather expect that the fulminate in old dets is decomposed as well, but still best not to touch them.

The way up to the top is very loose, the plank through the hole is uncertain and best kept away from. I hope to fit good ladders up to the top at some point, but would rather people keep away from that area until something is done.

Some friendly advice: Please, please, please invest in a helmet, you might just live longer :ohmygod: In all honesty, its reckless to be doing any mine exploring without one, but especially so if you're climbing ladders and anything vaguely adventurous in these places we all love...

Donning helmet, you'll have at least a *measure* of head protection in the event of a fall. Without, falling from one of those ladders, even just a short distance, you could be looking at serious injury, and a rescue event. And that will cause all sorts of problems and attention to jeopardise all the efforts that Roy and others have gone to...

Just saying...

I had not noticed the lack of proper equipment.

Its free access only to properly equipped explorers, there is no 'public access' i.e. access to anyone not equipped to go underground.

This is current trust policy, please note.

In view of the acquisition of Dinas by NAL (papers signed, awaiting finalisation) I am considering a definitive access policy based on a simple 'hard hat rule'.

If anyone wants to comment, feel free.

I totally agree Roy, it was a spur of the moment decision to go there on a trip bk from Aberystwyth. We usually have helmets with us. I will make sure the helmets live in my boot with our waders from now on. Also note: a lot of explorers will remove there hard hats for picture purposes as lamps are sometimes mounted, one could simply turn them off but leaving them illuminating the background helps for a better shot. That of course is a risk by the explorer with using common sence ie not under stopes or ladders. This isn't an excuse for our last trip as we simply didn't bring ours but a point to be noticed 🙂 as I say safety 1st, we have been doing this for a few years now and want to continue for years to come - hardhats everyone!

No worries.
I just felt that I aught to make trust policy clear as we have legal issues to consider.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
