Does anyone know anything about this drainage adit.
Is it accesable?
Is a trip possible?

Might help if you tell us which mine you mean. Lefel Fawr simply means Great or Big Level and many mines, especially the Lead Mines in Mid Wales would have had one!

Indeed :)

A search of Google finds many Lefel Fawrs, the 'Level Fawr' in Cwmystwyth being a favourite and indeed there is a mine called 'Lefel Fawr' in the hills behind Llyn Cwellyn http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Lefel-Fawr-Slate-Mine/ .
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Cwmystwyth's Lefel Fawr is the most famous one, as Vanoord says. Markc, we will discuss next time i see you ... 😉

The one I was thinking of is south west of Cwmystwyth,
If I've been given the correct grid reference: SN 739722.

Ah, ok. That lefel fawr is near the village of Pontrhydygroes just east of Aberystwyth near Devil's Bridge and drained the Logaulas Mine. There's a map and a bit of gen here http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/commondata/acrobat/level_fawr.pdf

I think its open. I will try and find out today. Let me know if you're planning a trip as its somewhere that I haven't been either!

The level is open and a trip can be taken finishing under Glog mines at Skinners shaft. You pass through the logaulas workings on the way through. The level is well over a mile long. The entrance is at the Count house in Pontrhydygroes, which is owned by Peter Harvey (of Llwyernog Mine Museum). He has always allowed access to those interested, contact him to confirm. (It was an trip for NAMHO a few years ago).

Incidentally I've always thought of this as 'the' Lefel fawr.

How long has it been possible to go further than the collapse at the end of the long straight entrance bit? It's been a long time since I've been there.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
