I have been asked by several people about a 'new' underground waterwheel discovered and photographed in Wales. I have identified the site as Nantycreiau which was explored underground by the North Cardiganshire Mining Club in the 1970s.
The was no intact waterwheel underground at that time, only the rotten timber remains of one in the bottom of the wheelpit. Today the deep adit is totally inaccessible anyway.
I have seen underground photographs taken by Simon Hughes who has confirmed to me the above as fact.
For the benefit of those who are interested, I have just updated this mine.
Sorry, if there was one there, I would personally move heaven and earth to get to it, you can all trust me on that!
My avatar is a poor likeness.
