Hello to the knowledgeable ones...
I took a very squelchy walk up the backside of Great Shunner Fell, via Great Sled Dale and came across what I presume are old lead mines... but then I could be wrong.
Before you all jump up and down and tell me it's Lane Foot, I know it's not.
This mine was beyond the last drystone wall at almost 500m ASL. There was a hush, three small spoilings, and a well hidden level. Down below in the side of the beck there was also another spoil heap & some shafts. They were not marked on my 25K map.

Geology:
the study of rocks & similar substances (minerals n such) that make up the Earth''s surface.
Minerals:
are the building blocks of rocks. They are a naturally occuring,inorganic, solid, crystalline substance which has a fixed structure. (and some of them are really pretty)

I think this is the appropriate location from Dunham.

Doesn't seem to have a name as such, but if you got some photos and want to post them, i'm sure adding something like Great Sleddale Trials will be fine, let us know if you want a hand creating it.

Having read the description that seem to be a perfect fit.
Even down to the deads that were in the spoil heap.

How do I post pics to an album? I have about 10 photo's on my drive.

As has already been noted this area has copper mineralisation.
Hence most of the mines in Great Sleddale were dug in search of this metal.
It does not appear that their searches led to anything substantial.
Interestingly this is one area of the Northern Pennines where secondary copper ores and fluorspar may be found in the same specimens.
However it is a long walk without the benefit of either tracks or paths, and if anyone is contemplating doing it solely by themselves I strongly advise informing some one where you are heading.
