A huge thank you for all your hard work Simon, you have done an excellent job. It does seem that this year is already more depressing than last. Hopefully we can all stay well, maintain our friendships and get back underground before too long. ;(;(

Simon, an extraordinary site, resource, source of inspiration and terror, learning and wonder.
Thank you for the years of hard graft, I massively appreciate it.
If subs are needed - just ask.

I really hope AditNow can be rebuilt, but when you can. So many memories so so many.
So thank you Simon and Next time my friend.
Take care and stay safe.

Simon, I've not been a particularly frequent contributor, but I have at least managed to upload some pictures to the archive. I have visited most days - and learned from everyone else's thinking and experiences every time I have done so.

Thank you for creating- maintaining- sponsoring- and refereeing - this learning resource.

And thank you, too, to all of those here who have helped my understanding of the Liskeard and Caradon Railway forward for the last decade.

Take care, Simon.
Regards, Alec

Really sad to hear this but I too would like to extend my thanks to Simon for all his work from which we have benefitted greatly.

I don't really understand the technical issues but I'd echo the sentiment of others that I would happily contribute financially if that would help.

As someone who lives far from the main mining regions of the UK this site has been instrumental in putting me in contact, and keeping me in touch with, many good friends. I've met folk and seen places that without this site I probably never would have and I have been colder, wetter and more terrified than I thought humanly possible.

I sincerely hope that there will be a way that this community can carry on, my fondest hope is that someday soon I will once again be undressing in a remote layby with a group of muddy bearded fellows I have arranged to meet through the internet.

Love you all :flowers: ;(

Yes, thanks Simon. I'm always surpised when a post I made 10 years ago pops up occasionaly. Like the Aber one! AN is my third port of call of the day after BBC News and The Grauniad.

I think as Simon says, web hosting has moved on, .Net Forms systems are less supported. Everything is some flavour of MVC these days. I can understand that a redesign would take a serious commitment of time.

As far as I can see, there are three major components of AN. The Forum, Galleries and Document Repository. I suppose a Simple Machines forum could be cobbled up for the former as a stop-gap. Not sure how much that would cost, and whether anyone would want to put in the commitment.

I notice that NAMHO does not host it's own forum and reccomends AditNow!!

Maybe Archive.org could be an option for Mining documents ? They do appear to have the concept of Collections.

I log on most days to read the latest replies to the active topics. I haven't contributed much of late but will miss my daily fix. Thanks to Simon and the admins for spending your time running the site

I can't really add anything to what's been said already ...

Like many people on this forum I've made new acquaintances (including Simon himself) and had some excellent underground trips with them in various parts of the UK.

Along with everyone else I would thank Simon for all the work and resources he's put in and wish him all the best.

I've stalwartly maintained the...erm...shaven haven...but agreed, it's a tragic loss, and I only hope temporary. I am relieved that the photos are safe, not least as I've put thousands up, but it's best they're somewhere else apart from just my machine.

So you're all going to have to hang out on UK Caving now - how does that feel? 😉

Simon you are a legend ... I regard this site as in the same league as the National Records Office (but easier to search) it is an excellent reference source.

I am sure you will preserve all the content but you also have a great community here. Let me know if I can help, I'm an IT professional like probably quite a few people on this site.

I also wonder if a national library would be able to help. Aditnow represents a vast resource for researchers and I am sure would find a home. In the meantime is anyone able to recommend some stop gaps for those who like me need their daily fix!

All the best I am going to miss this site!!!

Really sorry to hear this, been here since 2007ish.
found here through Mine Explorer... Apart from a forum post about Honister, just been a lurker really, but most days for years.
The knowledge, maps, and photos here are why this is in my first 5 sites of the day, RIP Adit Now 😞

If this was a pub being renovated, we could go down the road for a bit and return when the pub refurbishment completed. However this site seems inimitable, certainly nothing I know of compares to the database/resources and pics.

UK caving forums seem to be in rigor mortis, mine explorer rests in peace. Not sure there is a nearby pub to retreat into. I don't use insta-tic-face-twit etc myself.

Thanks again Simon and mods

Unless anyone can suggest a nearby refuge to lurk in??? I've copied the "NationalGrid" key of OS sheets, noted down some background info on a couple of trips I've in mind (should this damn Covid lockdown ever end) and so I'll make my Au Revoir

Edit: yes I would pay a subscription if that ever helped it's return

I am very sorry to hear this news. This has been an incredibly useful site over many years (although for the past four years I have been concentrating on limestone caves).

I hope something will rise again like a phoenix.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Got to view AN just now. Firstly, Very Many Thanks to Simon for his excellent work and to all the stalwart contributors for their amazing knowledge and experience. I came to AN after reading ChrisJC's account of his CRTT experience on his own site which read like a thriller. Perhaps the recent difficulties I have had with my browser are not unconnected with the proposed revision of the site and moving of the DNS to Cloudfare.

My question is whether the site can be run as an archive in the interim. There is so much information that would be useful. Would some sort of Cloud Funding help?

Thanks for everything that AN has offered over the years.

Always my first stop to find out more about an area.
It will be missed.
Hope our bereavement can be a temporary affair.
I guess money isn't the fix, but would be happy if a subscription service helped or to dig into pockets for donations if a technology revamp was feasible. Won't pretend to understand how much goes into making this possible!

Thanks again

A few points
We have all contributed to the site, but to a degree its been a free ride, especially for commercial concerns who have milked the site for free info and then charged their clients £X. We all know that this has gone on.

Simon has spent a lot of his own money and time setting this up, and as clearly stated on this thread, we all acknowledge this.

I see a possible way forward as a subscription site. Funding would not be available except from private and 'friendly' sources, costs have to be covered somewhere and I think we all agree, Simon has done more than enough.

The so called free sites out there are often not really free at all. Like Facebook and its data harvesting. You are not consumers any more, you are the product.

My plan would require an large initial outlay, but this money may be found. Don't get exited, but at least I am trying.

Aditnow has been a remarkable resource for everyone with an interest in exploring the underground since it began, many thanks to Simon and to everyone else too, for their contributions.
There is nothing else out there even remotely comparable so thanks very much Simon for all your work, time and money spent on this over the years, it is much appreciated.

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those that understand binary and those that do not!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
