I have for sale a copy of Samuel Murphy's book 'Grey Gold', Men, mining and metallurgy at the Greenside Lead Mine in Cumbria. It is in almost as-new condition so PM me with a sensible offer if interested. Best offer gets the book. Postage extra at £5.50 for first class.

Worth only what someone as willing to pay its published price as I recall was £25.00

Yep and also what prompted me to publish the volumes on Cwmorthen and Rhosydd. Bookseller were artificially pushing up prices

I know what you mean, hardback copies of my DGC books are being offered for silly money on Abebooks. It irritates me: I wrote the book to disseminate information not to feather some greedy gits bank account. I guess I am just naive. 😞

Mike,
Hopefully you may reprint other titles that are going ballistic as well!
Good luck with your ideas.

Kind of you to say but it's a costly exercise, I was fortunate that I know the author of Cwmorthen and was was lucky enough to have permission to redo Rhosydd which had to be retyped and yet to break even

A few years ago, Dickie Bird persuaded his wife to start, reprinting, Memoirs of the Geological Survey, which originally were printed just after the First World War.
These books, were long out of print and you could not get at the information, at that time, only by spending a lot of cash on photocopying, the relevant pages.
Naturally we bought into these big time, but unfortunately Hilary did not get the support we all wished, so the last reprints were limited to just 200 copies.
I sincerely believe that these reprints helped us all in getting mine exploration off the ground.
Hence my interest in this topic.
I also note that one of Ian Tyler’s books is currently being advertised at over £400, a price well in access of its original one!

Commercial booksellers try it on if no others for sale. They also sell on amongst themselves each time that happens prices go up.

It must frustrate Ian the current values of his books, as he managed to get the popular titles reprinted. As a note I bought the final copies of mine stats off Dickie you will be pleased to know only about 30 volumes were left

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
