Maybe you all know about this already but if not...

....the NLS has a mapping website

http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore

which overlays (by shading in and out by the user) Google Maps onto or under early 1900's OS 6" and 25" mapping.

Handy to check out what it is that you're looking at. Not all the country is covered at 25" but useful all the same.
