I know wire sawing was introduced in the Ffestiniog Slate Co (Ex-Oakeley) in the 1970s-80s, but I wasn't taking much notice of this "modern" version at the time, being more interested in the original experiments in the late 19th early 20th centuries. Does anyone know when they were introduced/used at Llechwedd? I know bits of Pellegrini kit were used on the rock face below the old floor 5 winding house - the weird "mickey-mouse" ears device which was perched on the top of the incline being associated with it.

I don't seem to be able to find any references to it in google - though I have found the Pellegrini co's current website.

Many thanks

As you are probably aware, there are loads of videos if you type "marble quarries" into youtube.

Yes - but I havn't spotted any of Llechwedd :):):)

(Some of those giant twin saws which move along rails are something else!)
