No they are wet cell.
Initially dry they will require acid and charge before use.

Actually, semi wet cell, the plates are surrounded by a material that holds the electrolyte.

This particular model is manufactured in the 'dry charged' state, just add electrolyte through the two holes visible under the tape and away you go.
Once you've added the electrolyte the battery is on the downhill slope.;D

Thanks for that Roy, I'm an old man who's spent a lifetime killing brain cells!;) On the ones I've dismantled in the past I do recall a 'blotting paper' type substance between the plates, I expect this needs saturating with electrolyte?

The electrolyte level should be between the two lines just above the plates.

Does anyone have a manual for the Oldham T which specifies the 'first fill' electrolyte SG? Seem to remember it's around 1.290-1.300.

Maybe just phone the company? even if they dont deal with them any more sure someone will be able to come up with a figure for you

I've already passed on the company email addy, just wondered if anyone had the original manual as dealing with some suppliers can be a real pain when old kit is concerned.

I've just found my manual, I'll scan & post the relevant page in a min.
In a nutshell it's 180ml of dilute sulphuric per cell at SG 1.260 corrected to 15 deg. C

We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......
