A few years ago, I picked up a 220m "bundle" of 12mm, black army rope for £80. I gather they pretty much "get rid of it" as it has exceeded it's storage date.

I have been on many ropes and apart from "that American stuff" which is about £3 a metre, nothing comes close to it. I don't think any "caving" ropes are any good for what I have in mind for them. Bloody great big abseils and when I prussic, I don't want any bounce in the rope at all.

I am very keen on getting my hands on some more of this and I would be interested in hearing from anyone who can source it at a realistic price.

I am aware of all the hysteria surrounding static ropes and I totally swear by this stuff. It is bloody brilliant. Everyone who comes down a hole with me wants to use my rope!

It's getting very furry/sad and it is high time I put it to grass/on ebay. :lol:

Once upon a time when I was in the Army Cadets (1971) we used to abseil using rope that did not stretch, from an 80' tower.
I never thought about it not stretching at the time. It wasn't like the sisal or hemp rope my Father had as a tow rope, I can't remember it being black, it was soft and pliable, i think.
