I'm not sure if this is someone already on one of the forums, the username seems familiar from somewhere.

Whoever it is they've got an excellent high resolution collection of mining disaster plans on Flickr.

Someone has done a fantastic job by collating these plans.
It might just be me.
But I can not zoom in enough to read any detail on the maps.
Is it just me
or are the images too small? 😢

@Rufenig - click on the magnifying glass symbol so you get the zoomed in version (on black background), then click 'view all sizes' (it'll go back to white) and finally click on 'Original'

my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

These plans would make a fine adition to the AN database, as would his pictures of collieries.
Is it possible to PM anyone on the site; I had a browse and couldn't find any links.

It is i, the one and only. It has took many hours to piece these plans together.
The main reason i did this was so that i could have electronic copies of my reports rather than keep reading the originals as some of the reports are very old.
If you go to www.dmm2.org.uk/ukreport/ or www.dmm.org.uk/reports/index.htm
for the north east reports then here you will find full copies of reports that they have collected, the only thing they don't do is have images of the plans. How can you read a report without any plans to put anything into context?

An absolutely superb job done. Great copies plus the reports to boot, I also think the photo's are a testament to the decline of the industry. The abandoned track beds and branchline pictures too, all valuable historical items.

Just happened to be looking at these at work on Friday and a guy who happened to be passing asked me what it was.

Turn out one of his relatives has died it that very accident I was reading about, and within seconds was able to show him exactly where.

He was chuffed to bits with the info.

Did these come from the Inspector of Mines reports? The latter are in part available online if you have access through Athens (ie academic institutions). I downloaded the reports covering 1873-1918 which took about 4gig.
