Hello people. Just to give a heads up i have had a report about Tyne Bottom . A club that i am a member of one of the members has been challenged by what we think could be the land owner/person renting the land an old bloke, in a tatty old light purple French make of car. The club member was not even on the public foot path as yet, he was on the public highway but this didn't mater to this man as he was saying that the club member was trespassing, if he come on to the footpath which is part of the Pennine way public footpath network . Then he come up with that the club member and the likes of you lot mine explores and clubs are vandalising the footpath. Then he come up with there is a fee to pay to enter the mine, (wonder if he no's that's a big can of worms he is opening up ), and there is a possible threat to any vehicles park there. Very strange the club members car has ended up with damage to the nearside back wheel arch with what looks to have been used is red bar or something along the lines , and there has been a scratch down one side of the members car it could be a coincidence but the members car is newish and looks after it. so please be careful there and try not to rise to this man best thing to do is just walk away and leave

I would have taken the number of the car and reported it to the police.

Even if he is the landowner he has no business accosting people on the public highway or a public right of way.

Thanks for the heads-up. Don't get to Tynebottom these days but the problem is universal, idiots full of drivel who have nothing better to do.... :guns:.

There are a number of inconspicuous cameras on the market which can be placed in or near a car in order to ascertain what happens around them, and which may prove useful if a crime is alleged and evidence needed.

Not sure what the current arrangement is, but probably some sort of attempt to extract cash from the Outdoors Centres that use the place.

There is a scheme where people pay £1.00/head when going down Tynebottom.

The norm is to leave the payment in an envelope, and put it through Bob Wright's door in Garrigill who then passes the payment onto the land owner. He lives at Bridgeview, which is opposite the green.

As Chris says, local outdoor centres do pay a yearly fee to the landowner, but individuals can do as mentioned above.

The landowner does not need to be antagonised (not saying anyone did), but there is a need to keep the short fuse from being lit, as access might be jeopardised in a bulldozer sort of way.

Well, it is within spitting distance of Weird-dale

I was talking to Bob the other day and from the other side, they are sick of people treating the place badly. Things like obstructing gateways, roads, wandering over private land, groups going in who haven't paid the annual, all the usual issues.

Apparently the bulldozer is a very real consideration at the moment so if you feel the need to visit be nice and remember you don't have a right to go into a mine on private property.

I don't use Tyne Bottom but often leave my car there an go walking.
There are some people around who could react violently to someone they catch vandalising their car, cant imagine who though.

Perhaps I should approach the owner on behalf of NAMHO. Seems wise to talk rather than fight. Can someone tell me what the Outdoor centres have arranged, and to whom should we speak?
