Hello all,

I am working on a project looking at the impacts of discharges from metal mines on surface waters in the Northeast.

I am currently looking at the discharges on Daddry Shield from greenlaws mine, particularly Quarry level, does anyone know where the pipe in this photo carries water from? Is it from just behind the wall shown? Or further into the level? If so any idea how far?

Any info you all have would be excellent.

Thanks in advance

As far as I remember, it ends in the level at some point. The drive in on Quarry level extends for some 500m until it reaches the vein. The pipe does not go that far.

The water level at the vein is 10-20cm.

I'm sure Sparty Lea will come along soon enough to explain as she did do a dig in there a few years back.

Yep mike is right, the pipe only goes as far as the dam which is placed as soon as the level gets through the drift into solid rock. Something like 20-30 meters in.

Thank you all for the responses. Its all useful to know.

Mr Mike - Could I include this photo in my report? The report is for the Environment Agency and will potentially be seen by us (the EA), The Coal Authority and consultants for the Coal Authority. Its a very good photo to help explain the flow pathways underground and why there are 2 slightly seperate discharges from the adit.

Thanks

Hope they are paying a good price for using it in their 'report'! 😉
