Hi All going to Boulby. I am not going I have rung the mine to say so. Its not worth me travelling or even attempting it with more snow forcaste for mon and tues. there was supposed to be a foot over the moors from Pickering to Whitby, 20 years ago yes but not that brave anymore,
be afraid.....very afraid !!!!

I drove from Corris in Wales to Redcar (13 miles from Boulby) last night and there were no major problems at all via the A19 and A174.

The A174 was covered on the outside lane, but the inside lane was fine.

Travel sites are reporting the A171 between Guisborough and Whitby as Hazardous, but theres currently no mention of the A174 down the coast being a problem.

Will keep you updated.

Both the A171 and A174 toutes are tricky at the moment.

A174 North Yorkshire - The carriageway is just passable on A174 Brotton Bypass in Brotton between the A174 junction and the A173 Marske Lane junction, because of ice.

A171 North Yorkshire - Hazardous driving conditions on A171 Whitby Moors Road between the Charltons junction in Guisborough and the B1416 Stakesby Road Roundabout junction in Whitby, because of ice, snow and visibility is reduced.

A174 North Yorkshire - Hazardous driving conditions on A174 between the Bagdale junction in Whitby and the North Road junction in Loftus, because of snow.

The snow has beaten me - another 6 inches this morning - up here above the Tyne Valley and looks like a lot more - I have just spoken with Sarah and cancelled.

Will have to just keep a trip down Boulby on the list of things to do and try again another time..

Sorry we've had to cancel gents.

I'll see if I can get a replacement visit in the diary for April - snow should have gone by then!

No need to do anything more moocher. Sarah at the mine got the cancellation message this morning and passed it on to me. I was to be the guide but have now been redeployed to other duties away from Boulby!

It's better to wait until we have a full team rather than do a visit for just a couple of brave souls. Plus there was a bit of a doubt as to whether I would be able to get there from York.

See you all in April.
