Both Nent and Cornwall sound good to me, though you might want to make the Cornwall one a long weekend too, coz most of us will have quite a journey to get there!

I like the sound of a long weekend in Cornwall.

Me too. Think we should seriously look at it.

We're doing another long weekend in N Wales, probably early June again (nice and quiet and weather usually good for camping) so how about (very provisionally!) early September just after the school holidays finish?

I'd definitely be up for the Cornwall trip but as Cleveland to Cornwall is a full days drive each way & about as awful a prospect as any sane person could consider I'll be making the most of it and having at least a long weekend there if it goes ahead.

Depending upon how much free time everybody has, might it be feasible to have an afternoon trip and overnight stop somewhere north of Swindon to break the journey up?

Take a break after 5 hours and overnight at the Quarrymans. You should be able to fit in a good trip around Box or somewhere before retiring to the bar.

Only another 4 hours to Cornwall the next day.

Cornwall is good, but access and "official trips" are a bit thin on the ground. Hence it is an idea to hook up to do the classics.

The Carbis Bay lot on Mine-Explorer have an annual bash with a lot of classic trips on the programme.

How about early October for Cornwall? The weather tends to be good (at least it has been in the last few years) and there is less traffic. 😎

We had a fab time August bank holiday last year.... If you want, I can reignite the feelers that Ive already put out for a mini bash for next year in Cornwall. There are many mines and the guys down there are great.

If you want, I can ask for prefered dates from them etc... I would need to know rough numbers for accommodation etc... camping is usually the best bet - come rain or shine. Or we would maybe look into hiring a baunk barn/yha area. Last year we camped.

Wouldnt you want to go somewhere abroad abroad?? tenereif? france? spain?
Love it . . . 🙂

I could certainly enjoy a long weekend in Cornwall.

I went down there for the first time in May 2008 (camped on Mr Grimwald's field) and had a couple of good trips with people from here and the 'other place' - so I'd like to do more down there.

Box stone quarry or something in the Forest of Dean would be an interesting diversion on the way there/back as well.

This has gone off into lots of sub-plots!

I'm going to split this into a few new threads to avoid confusion!

With the idea of a Peak Weekend, the Wales long weekend and a Cornwall long weekend between Easter and October I suspect a euro-mine trip might be a bit over the top for 2011?!

Shall re-start the Peak District thread and start a Cornish one.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
