PDMHS had a very well-attended trip into Milldam Mine today, interesting to see a working mine for a change, even if it does mean dodging the odd loader and wagon! I'm sure there will be photos in due course, as there were a number of AN members with cameras in attendance.

A big thank-you to Spires for arranging this one, and to Fred and Will for taking us round.
Follow the horses, Johnny my laddie, follow the horses canny lad-oh!

Indeed - a fantastic trip, and good to see so many people out on a rather cold, foggy (and early) start - far warmer indoors. Good to see a working face for once, instead of empty space!

Yes, it was a very interesting trip, and very well attended. Many thanks to those who organised it and those at the mine that showed us around!

Topped off for us by a very pleasant surface walk on the Sunday.

I see from the pics of the yard that the place is retained by hundreds if not thousands of concrete tunnel rings....around 3 to 4m diameter.....wouldn't happen to be left overs from Carsington by any chance?

Yes when the tunneling machine got bogged down and boring egg shaped passages a lot rings became redundant and laportes got them very cheap.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
