I would certainly like to see NCKs headframe retained, however if money is not spent on it soon it is unlikely to remain in the long term. I would imagine the bulk of the problems are on the South Side as the Northern side is relatively new (less than 25 years) and the Northern side does effectively function independently of the Southern side. If NCK is to be used for hoisting again I see no reason why the existing headframe can't be repaired or in the worst case replaced like for like - grant funding would almost certainly be needed as it would not be the most economical solution for a functional issue. The North winder is modern enough to be used and is certainly suitable for interlevel winding as the drums are clutched which will allow the mid set point to be changed to suit to enable winding to be carried out most economically.

So has the Roskear headgear actually been properly scrapped or has it been taken appart for storage and re-use later?

I heard from somewhere that the tossers would like Crofty to locate their crap in the valley to free up the site by the drag strip. I heard something about the headgear being conserved and painted the wrong colour, before [-]Midas turn it into a lego estate [/-] something community centred, promoting sustainable development whilst simultaneously celebrating diversity is created from a proactive think tank of out of the box thinking individuals. This could possibly involve some stainless steel sculptures as well.
