I've just picked up a copy of Sara Eade's new book on Ratgoed and having had a quick flick through tonight I have to say that this is highly recommended. Covers not only the quarry itself but also tramway and the people who lived and worked the valley. This is one of my favorite quarries so maybe I'm biased but this is, in my opinion, an excellent book. Available from Sara herself or the Corris or Talyllyn Railway shops. At £15.00 an absolute bargain.
I have to say I have no connection with the author or the Corris railway other than being a passive supporter of their respective projects, but were you to purchase from the Talyllyn you'd be making a valuable contribution to both Thorpy's and my Christmas bonuses.

If ordering by post direct from you, what name do you wish cheques to be made payable to? "Sara Eade"?

I collected my stock from Sara yeasterday and I have to say what an excellent piece of work it really is. The reviews are fully deserved it is not just one of the run of the mill all photos and no information. The photography both surface and underground is superb and is backed up by an intelligent and well planned script. At £15.00 is in my opioned underpriced.

I understand there has been a short print run and it is selling fast so get yopur orders in quick

Possibly... :)

Especially now I've figured out how to do a pull-through without trying to drag a massive figure-of-eight through a tiny maillon

Probably worth asking JonK about it: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=3860

The book arrived yesteday. Only had chance to flick through it so far. It seems a very thorough and varied book. Well worth the money.

I'll second that - looks very good, and has a broad and interesting content. Not just for the Slate Quarry enthusiast, makes a good coffee table book as well. Nice to see the people and social aspects covered.

and its in this mornings post. I notice you have an acknowledgement at the back for your assisting the author. Only one thing confused me it states you are a Mine Explorer but as far as I am aware you don't have a grey beard? 😉 😉

cheers

Have I?, well, that's a surprise!!, I have been on a few trips with JonK down there doing some cutting edge stuff, hence my interest in the book to see how it all fits in.

Finished reading it (one benefit of spending lots of time in airports / planes) this week.

Very enjoyable, really adds some colour to the greyness of what remains in the valley.
