The decade when Britain stopped being governed by its principles and started being ruled by its instincts. We may have gained our freedom but we lost our soul.

The "freedom" mentioned in the programme was the freedom of the markets, freedom to spend, freedom to be completely self-centred.

We could always emigrate to Greece! Surely we haven't forgotten Mrs Handbag so quickly. Afterall she decimated industry and won an election by going to war.

I know one should really feel sorry when you see an old lady crying, but whenever I see Mrs T blubbing as she walked to her car in Downing Street, I still get a sense of relief!

Thats right Carnkie... Mrs T started it by kicking the working class into touch and Tony (the Phony king of England) + the unelected Scotsman drove the stake in fully having promised a rebirth that never happened, but fooled most of you with its BS growth figures based on debt and borrowing... Off you go, buy something you can't aford and keep Britain afloat. Yee Gods Maggie got it wrong, big time, but Labour rather than look after those who work and keep the rest, have screwed us to the wall to pay for their politically correct, financial, sociological experiment. I believe a certain region in the UK now has 40% of its actual workforce employed or indirectly employed by local govenrment. New Labour New Lies!

As for Greece and the Euro let it rot... this is a country thats broken the rules as as its basically corrupt and top in the tables of tax evasion.. And theres much more to come...

Edit... Bet New Labour won't be spouting of the benefits of being central in the new Euro zone now that its all going tits up!

Edit Edit... Party politics is bankrupt and this country needs a total new way not based on toffs and socialist toffs spouting PC BS whilst pretending to be on top of things!

I thought the US had been doing this for years. And then chickens came home to roost eventially. I see the German economy is not so clever either.

Gordon Brown isn't the only "non elected" PM we have had! It is a fairly common occurrence.

As for the hag with the bag, I had better not get started!

40% employed by the government is a lot better than 40% not employed at all.

Not really. We can't afford to pay them.
In some Labour strogholds well over 60% of the working population is public sector.
There are over 100,000 public sector employee's who actually work for various unions and not for the public interest.
The NHS is the worlds 3rd largest employer, only Indian State Railways and the Chinese Army have more emloyee's.

The only way UK PLC is paying he bills this year is by printing off a third of what Mr Brown is spending.
The UK is in more debt now that we were at the end of the war in 1945, we only paid that off a few years ago.

Public spending is so far out of control our grandchildren will still be paying for it.

We simply do not have the money to pay for this vastly over-inflated public sector. Regardless of who wins the next election the whole house of cards will come crashing down.

Well said Jagman.... Everyone keeps forgetting that all the money spent in the public sector on employment is just re circulated... it produces nothing saleable for the economy, and everything that doesn't get recirculated mostly gets spent on food or stuff we import or on credit, net effect a fair % of it goes out the country. Thats not a go at public sector workers, I have a lot of respect for them mostly. Public sector growth is a side effect of H&S, an aging population and government/EU legislation.

The country needs to make things that people want to buy or that we can mostly sell abroad (real jobs) to create actual revenue... we can't run our economy swapping hair cuts for shoe shines.

But are you all going to rush out and buy an expensive British built DVD player because its British built when you can buy a Sony assembled in China or Korea for peanuts.... the answer is No of course not.

What you are now seeing in the UK and Europe is the price of de-industrialisation and the allowing of free trade to run rife. Anything that can be made cheaper in the East will be!
In Spain 43% of people between the ages of 16 and 24 are unemployed!

We are already seeing suggestions that living relatives will be subject to huge charges for elderly care because the state can't afford the elderly anymore so will rob the generation ahead to keep things going, we are already being told by both parties there will be big tax hikes... inevitably the government is going to have to draw more and more on yours and my personal savings and wealth. Why do you think tax evasion and the uk (cash) black economy is now so big? Anyone with any idea of whats going on in the UK is making sure there money is safely out of reach of the exchequer who now does more and more to try and find it... do you really think that the reporting of any cash transaction over £x,000s of pounds was really to do with terrorism? its just another example of legislation allowing the government to pry into your finances.

Whilst you have party politics and no real representation of real peoples views nothing will happen, they will keep telling you everything is OK until there is nothing left then and only then will people realise they have been screwed over, thats when the riots start!
