I noticed this mine on mine-explorer:
[url]-http://www.mine-explorer.co.uk/mines/Buttermere-coffin-level_1155/Buttermere-coffin-level.asp[url]

I'm guessing that the grid reference is wrong as it's not too near buttermere and no tip/workings can be seen on the google map on ME, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it/where it is exactly?

any info much appreciated

regards

It's gone!

Dave Banks photographed this level after I reported it in WCMRGs magazine in 2005. Myself and MC opened this level in 1994 (only my 2nd coffin level) and is still available through a well hidden round metal thing.

Ah cheers for that, it's nice to know that it's still accessible. I noticed seeing some tips some way up the hillside above the north western part of Buttermere, would this be the one?

Have put some photos in album. Coffin level was the flooded sump in J. Adams description. Beware Willie the farmer!
