A while back I posted some info that Ocean Fabrication were looking at taking over the old mill building at the mine.
For a few weeks now there has been considerable activity on the site with some earth moving and drain laying etc.
The large crusher house has been completely cleaned out and prepared for the new company to start operations.
The outer cladding of the building is being repaired and is almost complete. Equipment is being moved in and on Wednesday morning the new overhead beam crane was hiosted into position. With an SWL of 16 tons (imperial) it should answer well to all of Ocean's needs.
Compare the B&W shot of the crusher house taken in 2002 to the colour pics here.
It's good to see the mill buildings being put to use, unlike at Wheal Jane where it was torn down for scrap.

Hell! There's my uncle John in the above photo!!! Both he and my grandfather (Harry Polkinghorne) worked at Magpie. Good to see him out and about as he's not long recovered from a serious operation 🙂

Well! I've known John and Joyce for years and when Richard Freeborne at Wellington told me about the crane installation I asked John if he would like a nostalgic trip back to see the mine site and witness its reincarnation.
I'll email these pics and a few others to you in the next few days.

Yeah, well, you know what Cornish people are like Roy, inbred and all that  Seems like I'm related to half of Lanner's population!!! John loves to chat about the old days when he worked at Magpie, Tolgus Tin and later, Happeny Park (now Poldark Mine). Would love to see the pictures, please. I've a real soft spot for John
