Wednesday 30th May 2012 marked the anniversary of 5 years occupancy of the old Mount Wellington Mine site.
Kensa Engineering Ltd has transformed the former mining site into a green energy business park where several companies are involved in producing renewable energy systems and goods.
To cap the celebrations and to remind people of the site's former use, the sheave wheels from the headframe have been mounted onto a frame and were ceremonially lowered into position outside the main offices, now renamed Kensa House. The invited audience included Tim Smit (Eden project and Lost gardens of Heligan fame) along with people from the mining world, the green energy field, and local dignitaries.
There was great deal of Champaign on offer along with the statutory canapés; and very good it was too !
Here’s a few photos from the day which I feel closes the circle for mining on the site.
Or does it?
Kensa are extracting heat from the ground and from the water in the shaft, to heat their workshops and offices. So I guess this could be considered to be an extractive industry, but with negative environmental impact.

These information plaques will eventually be mounted on the frame
