We're only half way through the year, but already a couple of people have asked me if we're running annual events like the photo competition and are producing a 2010 calendar.

Definitely yes on both fronts. And a few other site projects. I've put up a few new web pages detailing these projects. This is basically a heads-up for these, more details will be provided in due course.

1) 2009 Photo Competition

We will definitely be doing a 2009 photo competition, similar great prizes to last year (1st prize last year was a Sten S7 lamp). Full details will be announced within 3 to 4 weeks max when we've decided on subject matter etc.

Web page: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/static/mine-photographs-competition-2009.aspx  (very much under construction)

2) 2010 Calendar

Fully intend doing a calendar again for 2010, the demand is there, and it'd be nice to make this the best yet.

All profit will be to a good cause or good causes as before. We can discuss this closer to the time. I've put together a web page about the calendars to date including a break down of where the profits have gone, we occassionally get asked.

3) Underground Reflections and possibly another in the series

Vanoord has already floated the idea of another in the underground reflections book series, it could either be a captioned photo book of mines across the UK (as the first book is), or specific to a mine or region, or a book of member articles. Whatever people favour really.

Again, a brief page has been put together detailing the first book and illustrating costs and profit.

I guess a lot of people will have missed the earlier posting (above) on this, but it's probably about time to start thinking seriously about producing the 2010 mine exploration calendar. In terms of:

- where the profits should go to
- what to feature each month

There's already a web page for the calendar (which also breaks down where profits have gone from the last couple of years) http://www.aditnow.co.uk/static/mine-exploration-calendar-2010.aspx

Would be really nice for the 2010 to be the best yet, both in terms of photographic standard and relevance.

Hopefully last year's format was well received, and if so I think it makes sense to stick to it, that is, a mine featured per page (rather than a person), use real names rather than forum names and avatars, and include a brief potted history of each mine.

Over to you 🙂

I'll start! 😉

Happy to compile the photos, shall cheerily put my name down for a calendar: I shall have a space on the wall in the kitchen come January 1st.

I was happy with the format for this year, but all suggestions will be welcome...

i dont know your print run or whether you did it on demand but if you give me the details i will have work do a competetive price for you.

The print world is very cut throat and it pays to shop around. or even go abroad.

Thanks for the print quotes Pacef8.

Vanoord, and everybody else who wants to have their photos on the 2010 calendar... Would suggest a working to the following timescale:

All photos and mine descriptions compiled: End of September
Artwork and proof: Mid October
Print: End of October

That's pretty much how it worked the last two years, and gives November and December clear to shift 100 copies.

We need to work out:

- Mines to feature (probably ought to be different to last year)
- Beneficiary of profits

I wasnt aware that certain mines would be a feature but thats fine by me, it just means i will have to hit them soon if they are not on my done list.
However i still like the man deep level incline one .

From a personal point of view, I'm not too fussed if a couple of places are repeated: yes it would be nice to see all-new locations, but it's not the be-all and end-all (imho!).

I suspect we shall have a mix of new faces and familiar friends. :)

I'll post up a thread for submissions once we have an email address to send photos to...

Email address can be [email protected] again.

Agree with Vanoord, don't mind if a few mines are repeated this year, although new ones would be better in my opinion. However it's the quality of the photographs and the information about the mine that are more important.

For anybody not familiar with last year's format, it was:

- A3, month to a view, full colour
- 1 mine featured per month, with
- Main photo with photographer credit
- Two smaller photos (usually by the same person, but occassionally not)
- A few paragraphs of potted history of the mine

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
