Bit of a shame really, obviously nothing is sacred apparently there is going to be a remake of Wild Geese too.

Why not? Seems everything else has or is in the process of being remade/ruined including it seems The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, the best 70's film without exception IMHO.
At least with Mel Gibson in it its guaranteed to be at least as good as lets say Lethal Weapon 4..... 😞

Off topic, but are there many films (as in movies) about mining either directly or indirectly. Can't think of one of the top of my head though I'm sure that can't be right.

OMG, I suspect a Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (movie) style of mess coming up.

I imagine it'll be all car chases and explosions. And will absolutely fail to capture the subtley of the original which precisely hit the nerve of public paranoia surrounding cold war nuclear issues in the early 80s...

Bizarrely the only English actor in this is Ray Winstone, who is playing Darius Jedburgh, one of only two American characters in the original!

He's a good actor, but he'll struggle with that "Craven, in England you may make a record, in Texas we cut a disc" line :lol:

A few of my favourite films that have a mining theme are Brassed Off; Billy Elliot ; El Corazón de la Tierra (in Spanish with English subtitles about the mines of Rio Tinto) and Stocker’s Copper (about the china clay riots near St Austell) filmed in 1971. I expect others can think of many more 🙂

C'mon.. lets not forget Suzannah York and Roger Moore in Gold Mine!!! Then there's Hammond Innes - Golden Soak - the reason I ended up in Ozzie in the first place chasing dreams in the bush... Proper mining films!!

that walt disney film out of the dark i think it was called filmed in langthwaite and around arkengarthdale ,kids rescuing pit ponies

how about The McKenzie Break. filmed in and around Bonmahon, shows truck going down Tankardstown engine shaft....which is now filled in, but good shots of the mine area, there was some talk of trying to get the truck up when I was involved with the original mining heritage there in the middle to late 90s. The site is looking good now engine house has been restored etc. Mining Heritage trust have done a brill job...all credit to them.

Went in the adit half way down the cliffs in 1982. A very scary place then. Finally pursued out by a rising tide of fllod water after trying to get over an ochre dam. It was like something out of Indiana Jones - which brings us back to this thread. What about the mine chase sequence in said film?

I think the Edge of Darkness movie / remake / mess (delete as applicable) has been and gone?

Anybody see it? Was it as bad as everybody anticipated it would be?

The only recent(ish) Holywood blockbuster with a significant mining component I can think of is the second Indiana Jones fim: 'I.J. & the Temple of Doom' *. Bears no resemblance to any mine whatsoever but is rather a template for a fairground rise - probably thinking of the franchise prospects when they wrote it!

* Guess what age my children are and hence what films we endlessly watch...

If you watch it without any thought for the original & treat it as no more than an utterly unremarkable Hollywood thriller then you won't be disappointed.

Expect anything more then you will be disappointed.
