Hi Roy, The same thoughts crossed my mind too.... you would not get away with the pins but the rest might cast in alloy or ally brass, many bits to small to cast in brass as the surface pitting in the brass would preclude finishing... the cyl walls way to thin! But not being funny the parts that could not be cast could be easily made.
Lets just say I may do a version of my own that will cast using small screws for pins and making it look a bit more realistic in areas, kind of a cheap static model in metal..... could be a market there! 😎

You're sort of re-inventing the flywheel here... The Airfix kit looks distinctly like a crib of the Stuart Turner one, and they've been making model stationary engines since the 19th century. http://www.stuartmodels.com/inprod_det.cfm/section/machined/mod_id/35

However the ready to run version does cost a bit over 100 times the cost of the plastic kit...

1500 and odd quid including the VAT! and then you need a boiler at 800 odd quid PLUS VAT!

I didn't pay that for the car I'm driving, and that packs a few more HP but maybe not so pretty to look at 😞

Just doing some drawings at mo to see if a model engine (non steaming) was viable..... I can do my own pattern making in plastic/wood and if it runs ok as built in plastic it should be ok in metal.... the worst thing to pattarn is the crank and eccentric.... just need to get my head round that bit!!!

I think i have seen a metal kit on e-bay from china or hong kong for about £25.

I have made a card model from a kit of one of the Kew Bridge engines. I have also made East pool engine house and Crofton Pumping Station.

I'll try to upload photos and a link later. Prices were £7-£11 and just stuck together with PVA glue. The beam even works on the Kew Bridge model.
