Even with the onset of soaraway global warming ::) there have been a few winters recently where I have experienced conditions like that.
After driving over 20 miles it was often a case of leave the car and walk the last mile or two up 1 in 4 twisty roads with ice or up to a foot of snow on them. Then a mile walk up the hill to start work (at 1600ft AOD) only to find that the water supply was frozen up so we had to drill dry (and, worse, melt ice for the kettle). But while you're working you create your own heat so "Nar, it's not that cold" 😉
