Hmm, looks like there might be enough interest for a short re-run. Vanoord - any thoughts? I know we'd intended the next book would be different in subject matter, but would it be worth getting a few more photos books first?

A few numbers, based on this being an 11"x13" book, hardcover.

Standard price is £30.95 but for quantities 10 & over, there is a 10% discount - so that's £27.86 each.

Shipping:

1 copy - £3.99 / £34.94 total (no quantity discount)
2 copies - £3.99 / £32.95 total (no quantity discount)
3 copies - £3.99 / £32.28 total (no quantity discount)
10 copies - £24.27 / £2.43 per copy / £30.29 total
15 copies - £35.78 / £2.39 per copy / £30.25 total
20 copies - £48.50 / £2.43 per copy / £30.29 total

The downside is that there then also needs to be another carriage charge to get the books from here to wherever they're going within the UK as they have to be sent from Blurb in one shipment.

I can't quite remember how much that was, but it's going to be in the ballpark of just over £4 per copy.

Thus, we're probably looking at a minimum of £34.50 a copy and if it were done as a fundraising exercise it would have to be something like £39.95 in order to generate a decent sum from a (fairly limited) run of 20 copies.

There are thus probably two or three options and I'm happy to open them to debate:

(i) we order a batch, sell them at £34.95 and distribute them from within the UK, with no donation to charity (if there's anything left over, it could be invested in a few bolts for some unspecified project)

(ii) we order a batch, sell them at £39.95 and distribute them from within the UK, with a donation to a mining-related charity which will be perhaps £75 in total

(iii) we can open the book up for direct ordering on Burb and allow people to order as and when they like - the price will be £34.94 but if a couple of people order books together, the flat rate of carriage at £3.99 works for up to three books and that can bring the cost down to £32.28 per copy

Thoughts on a postcard... 🙂

EDIT: the carriage from Blurb to the UK may be subject to VAT, can't quite figure it out from their website...

my vote would be for option 2, it doesn't add much to the overall cost, and i'm sure any of the mine related charities would be very grateful for any help however small!

I'd be interested in a copy. as well as some very nice eye-candy, it would be nice to show SWMBO what I'm about to head into when I vanish for the day.

EDIT.

Option 2 preferred.

I hope to get a short re-print done before Christmas - there's a list of people waiting for a copy and it would be nice (given the calendar is going to pay for steel for Cwmorthin) to sell something as a fundraiser for a CRO.

When I'm back home I'll try to book vanoord for 5 minutes to talk to him about it

edit

I've taken the 'buy now' out of the thread title seeing as you can't just yet

It would be nice to perhaps do another book next year, probably a photo book again, but preferably with photos from more people than just me and the Colonel (as with the current book) but that's probably something for another day or some winter evenings...

Is the easiest thing for me to put these back on sale at £39.95 each, with a £5 deposit to confirm interest and the balance payable when the books are dispatched?

that sounds like a good idea to me, there's certainly been a lot of interest in it on here! the only thing to bear in mind is folks may object if they've paid a deposit, and then nothing happens for several months (not that that might happen... )
