Following some technical problems transferring files, all is well and ready to go: thank you Toadstone, for pointing out the error of our ways! :flowers:

The 'finished article' will include captions, albeit in a couple of cases where access is a problematic issue the caption may be slightly vague, eg "Blaenau Ffestiniog Slate Mine".


In order to qualify for the quantity discount on the book, we need to sell ten copies, probably plus one proof copy.

The price of the books will be £30 + £2.50 shipping and this should allow a donation to Derbyshire Cave Rescue of around £4-£5 per book.

In order to try and reduce the costs of production (Paypal would swallow over £1 per order), I am using the company webstore for people to order the book through.

A couple of points to note:

Deposit

A £5 deposit will be taken to confirm your order just before the order is placed with the publisher (likely to be mid-February). All card transactions are processed manually, so this will be the only amount charged at this stage.

Basically, the order will be placed with the publisher once we have got ten orders and a proof has been received - no charge will be made until then and everyone will be notified when the deposit is taken.

Dispatch

When the books have been received from the publisher and are ready for dispatch, the balance (£27.50) will be charged to the same card. Once payment is completed, the book will be sent by Royal Mail recorded delivery post.

Donation

As noted above, a donation will be made for each book sold and this will go to Derbyshire Cave Rescue. The total will be notified once the books have been sent out.

Hi Chris,

The transaction is processed manually, so nothing is taken until next week (at the earliest) - and that will merely be the £5 deposit. The balance will only be charged once your book is packaged and ready to be sent out.

As the order page says:

Mr.RL, good sir: 'tis easier to do it this way as I can avoid the Paypal fees, which would otherwise eat up about 40% of the donation to Derbyshire Cave Rescue :flowers:

Fair enough 🙂 But it's not clear that you won't be charged the £32.50 straight away. The product is added to the basket at £32.50 and the checkout is apparently done at £32.50. I know how the card is processed, but people who, er, didn't build your web site (!) won't necessarily.

Update:

Captions have been added to all pages and the proof copy has been ordered: when this arrives (and has been checked!) the £5 deposits will be charged and the production print run ordered.

I should be able to give an indication as to delivery timescale once we've seen how long the proof copy takes to arrive!

Well I think the first preview sample of the finished book will arrive tonight. Looking forward to see it.

Once we've decided how many to order, and worked out postage cost, Vanoord will advise how much from each book sale will go to Derbyshire Cave Rescue and update the book description with this informaton.

We've done a fair bit of fund raising to date and think it's very important that it's done transparently and people know how much of their money has gone to the relevant cause.

Thank you everybody who has ordered a copy, none of these fund raising efforts would work if people didn't support them by buying the items. To date calendars for FoC, calendars split between FoC and North Wales Cave Rescue, merchandise for FoC and now this book with profit to Derbyshire Cave Rescue, and happy to commit to doing a 2010 calendar as well along similar lines to this year's.

Ordering day will be Wednesday, 11th March :)

I would expect printing and delivery to take around 10 days, so I'd expect to be sending the books out somewhere around the week commencing 23rd March.

In terms of likely donation to Derbyshire CRO, this will depend slightly on final numbers, but I expect it to be in the region of £5 per book although this will depend slightly on the carriage charged for getting the books delivered. I'll email everyone who bought the book with a reconciliation of the figures once it's all done.

As before, it's still not too late to order a copy! 😉

Pleased to confirm that I've just ordered a large pile of books!

Oddly, the shipping charge is the same for several as it is for one, so that should increase the donation a bit. On the down side, the cost price seems to have gone up by 45p but that's not too bad given that the shipping is much less than expected.

Judging by the time it took to print and dispatch the proof copy, I'd expect to see the books in the week commencing 23rd March :)

After a bit of a panic when two copies of the book arrived on Saturday, a handful more have arrived today and I suspect that the rest will appear in the next few days...
