Firstly, huge thanks are due to Toadstone for putting this together - many long hours have produced a fabulous book featuring some of the best photographs on this site.

I've had a copy of the book in the office for a few days and it's gathered a lot of compliments: it's a 13" x 11" hardcover book with a glossy dust cover and 40 printed pages. The reproduction quality is high and the format shows the pictures off perhaps better than a screen can. A few images - apologies as my colour balance is a bit off:

Front cover:

Sample pages:

đŸ”—Personal-Album-2-Image-100[linkphoto]Personal-Album-2-Image-100[/linkphoto][/link]
And the screenshot from the editing software (Blurb) for the same page:

At the moment, there are three copies of the book in existence - one with Toadstone and one with each of the photographers (SimonRL and Colonel Mustard): thus at the moment this is a bit of a 'proof of concept'.

The question is: do forum members wish there to be a further print run so that they can buy a copy of this?

Because this is a bespoke print run, there are no up-front costs, although it would probably be sensible to take payment before an order is placed. It has also been suggested that the pricing will also reflect a small donation to Derbyshire Cave Rescue, which I would whole-heartedly endorse. Price is likely to be in the region of £30 + shipping for the 13"x11" size, although a smaller 10"x8" size could, I suspect, be offered for around £20 (albeit the large size does do more justice to the photos).
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

I would certainly be interested in one of the 13"x11" size.

If Welsh mines are included in this book, if someone would care to write a review, together with bibliographic details and info on where the book can be obtained from etc., I'll include it in the next Welsh Mines Society Newsletter.

Thanks Dave, that would be great. I left the book with Vanoord last week so haven't got it to hand but from memory at least all of the following Welsh mines are covered:

Cwmorthin
Oakeley
Rhosydd
Diphwys
Moel Fferna
Ystrad Einion
Bwlch Glas
Benallt
Gwynfynydd
Croesor
Parys
Drws y Coed

If this is succesful I'd really like to do some more books, perhaps even specific to individual mines, even if it's just for fun since it's great seeing photos in a book. But if they can be viable fund raisers then even better - they can be ordered even individually.

Looks like it could be a great book, I would certainly purchase one of the 13" x 11" ones. As has been said to get the best quality you need the bigger size.

I'd like one of the big ones too, although I'll have to conceal the price from SWMBO....

I'd have one of the big ones as well, but which mines are featured? Any in N. England?

The Colonel can probably answer this better than me, but yes, although predominently north west I think rather than north east.

In terms of interest I think we have:

Vanoord
RobinH
Blackcraig1
AR
MineRover
redlion
ben88800
Wormster
carnkie

That's nearly enough for an initial print run as well as raising a few quid for Derbyshire Cave Rescue.

But perhaps best to leave this open for a week or two to see if there's any more interest.

Vanoord's next idea is a picture book every three months đŸ˜® I really should have thought more carefully before saying 'if this is succesful I'd really like to do some more books, perhaps even specific to individual mines' đŸ™‚ đŸ™‚

Update: Underground Reflections

đŸ”—Personal-Album-2-Image-102[linkphoto]Personal-Album-2-Image-102[/linkphoto][/link]

Incredibly two months have gone by since Vanoord posted the photos of the first trial print run of the book Toadstone produced đŸ˜®

With the calendars now well on their way to being all sold I guess it's time to look at this again.

In recap, as it stands, the book is 38 pages of photos of mines from (mainly) North Wales and the North West. Produced by Toadstone, and with all proceeds of sale going to a genuine good cause in the form of Derbyshire Cave Rescue.

I wonder whether it might be worth tweaking the final version, to include captions and/or mine descriptions as per the 2009 calendar; and perahps (permission permitting) to include the winning photos from this years photo comp?

Anyhow, aside from those tweaks it's ready to go, and with the calendar project pretty much sorted I can afford the time now to sort it out.

Is there still sufficient interest in the book? If you're interested in a copy please do say so we can gauge if there's enough interest for a short print run.

As per previous comments in this thread or elsewhere, if it's successful we'd look at future books, either in the same format or similar and both a general mix of locations and perhaps specific to individual mines.

Please put me down for one. The big size will be OK.

Can we pay by PayPal, or would you like a cheque?

Suggestion: These may sell quite well at the various mining museums etc around the country, which invariably sell some books, in which case you might want a larger print run.

Thanks Alan

There's been lots of really positive feedback about the book, so in the next week or so I'll finish it off (with Toadstone's persmission) and sort out order quantities.

Hopefully Vanoord will chip in with ideas for specific books for next year :flowers:

If the pics are captioned I'd like a copy please, not keen on anonymous pics though.
