I dare say I would like a couple.
Can't contribute any pictures as I still haven't gotten around to having my camera repaired and thus haven't taken any pictures this year 😞

I will definitely buy two. One for me and one for my old ex-coal miner dad who cannot manage mine exploring due to coal dust on the lungs and knackered knees etc. Bought him last years calendar and he loved it.

As happened last year, the profits of the 2009 calendar will be donated to good causes. Last year, Β£450 was donated to Friends of Cwmorthin, a cause which is supported by many people who post on AditNow. Indeed, members have given their time in the last 12 months to help out with re-timbering, clearing blockages and other ongoing works, something that will continue this autumn.

It had been suggested that for 2009, a different good cause could be the recipient of the funds raised by the calendar. We have been waiting to find out about a specific project that may require one-off funding and other suggestions have also been made.

It has, therefore, been decided that the '09 calendar will be sold in a slightly different manner, in that when people order it they will be able to choose which of a couple of good causes they wish to support, one of these being FoC and it would seem likely that FoC will be the main beneficiary.

As before, all profits from the calendar will go to the good causes and there will be no cost for the design work, or the time taken to pack and distribute the calendar. Thus, if the calendar is widely promoted and supported there should be significant benefits: the aim is to considerably increase on last year's total.

The calendar will be a little different to '08 in that it will not be obviously branded with any website addresses or indeed usernames, or forum avatars: instead, it is planned to include a bit more information about the location of the photograph and possibly about the camera and settings used.

This is intended to broaden the appeal of the calendar and increase sales - and thus the donations. We've been making enquiries about other possible outlets and it's felt that a more general approach which is not tied to any particular websites will maximise the benefits.

Obviously, the more help that can be given in terms of promoting the calendar, the higher the sales will be and the more money will be raised. There are also a couple of other things being worked on by both AditNow and Mine-Explorer to specifically support FoC, which will (no doubt) see the light of day shortly.

As many of you know ADITNOW raised Β£450 last year from calendar proceeds and it was very well received. The FOC needs donations like this survive, and we are very very pleased to here will be one of the receivers of funds again this year.

The FOC is completely funded via public donations, as we do not receive grants or any other financial help at this time. We are still looking for a secure long term form funding, to secure the FOC future. With the Cwmorthin project now taking on more responsibility and financial commitments, and money has to stretch further and further.
The FOC has had to negotiate and keep 4 land owners happy at Cwmorthin. This has taken 3 years and a lot of time and patience to finally get the Cwmorthin project off a rocky road and onto a smooth one. It’s only now we see a long term future for the project and are overwhelmed by yours and local support. It would not have been possible to get this far with out it.

There has been a question of how we spend that money and what on. (And so there should be) We welcome any question of how we run things at FOC and where money is spent and how. Accounts are kept of every penny spent and what on.
We also post news updates on the Cwmorthin web site (www.Cwmorthin.co.uk) when something has happens or been done. There are also contacts details for me and others on the website if you wish to contact us privately with any question you may have.

We will be giving AditNow our full support for the calendar and be helping in anyway we can.

is this the kind of thing your after?
also what of copyright? if our names are not on the page or picture heading do's this go over as the projects copyright?

Hello Vanoord,

Hello mate, I glad everyone has got themselves together over the calender issues. I however am still a little confused over the way it has been sorted. Obviously I am a member of all three websites, and was keenly reading the threads about the 2009 calendar, but I was slightly perturbed when I saw that only aditnow members were being asked to submit pics for this cross site calender. The reason being that the word was put out about the calenders on DP and M.E only after all but one month had be filled. Now call me pedantic, but I was in the way of thinking that if the calender was/is to be cross forum that everyone would get a chance to submit photo's for the cause, as yet this is still forth-coming...or not going to happen?? And that a couple of admin from each site would get to choose the final photo's. Being only a small player in all sites, DP, Aditnow, M.E, perhaps it's not my place to even have a say, but out of total fairness and perhaps to increase sales even more, I think this should happen. just my insignificant two pence worth

As I understand it, volunteers have been asked to submit pictures but no final pictures or participants have been settled upon.
In the previous two years many people have failed to provide pictures in the end and there is plenty of room for more people to submit pictures.
Several of those who have put themselves forward use all 3 forums
I'm sure that everyone who wants to put forward pictures will get equal consideration πŸ™‚

Good morning all! :)

A few bits of clarification have been asked for:

Copyright - this will remain with the photographer, albeit that they will effectively grant a specific licence for their work to be used on the calendar. They will be acknowledged by real name (either as Bob Bobertson or B.Bobertson, at their choice) and not as a forum username.

Photographs may be submitted by anyone, regardless of whether they've registered on a forum anywhere. As Jagman says, the more that are submitted, the better :)

If there are more photographs submitted than there is space for, then I think it's only reasonable that the final decision must rest with SimonRL - it may be that some of the better photographs do not print as well as they appear on screen and I seem to remember last year that there are occasionally technical considerations that outweigh 'artistic' ones.

I've amended the list (see below) to indicate people who have volunteered photographs, together with their preferred month: it would be useful to get this to around 14-18 to act for contingencies. If there are more than enough, then I'm sure that people who have had pics used in the last couple of years (myself included!) will step aside.

Ben88800 - July
BigLoada - May
Colonel Mustard - September
Ferret - January
LAP - February
MartyMarty - December
Mole - August
SimonRL - March
Sparty Lea - November
Toadstone - October
Vanoord - June

One question I'd like to float is this: should the three photographs that are shown for each month be of the same location, in order that a short bit of information about that mine can be provided?
