... reminds me of having lunch down Beaumont decline at Allenheads - one of the miners had 2 detonators in a sandwich laid on the rails.. wasn't long before Mr. Rat came along - and enjoyed his meal of exploding sarnie....

Welcome to Smallclough though - I heard Sparty Lea was taking you down - I was half expecting to bump into you in Incline Flats, but someone gave me a dose of 'flu you see, so I was still in bed suffering when I should have been having fun down a mine.....

I still have vivid memories of the big party we had down Wood mine at Alderley Edge - the older of the DCC guys will remember - we had a burger bar in the cavern, band / disco in a cave, and candles all down the horse level - generator on surface with power cables down a shaft somewhere, (I had to keep refilling the genset with petrol) and I remember having to scour the mine next morning for couples who wandered off into the workings for a night of merriment - only to find the candle burned out and they were stuck. Damn good night was had by a lot of people - with the blessing of the National Trust ranger at the time.. it was about 1980 I'd guess.. Nigel Dibben was one of the names I remember - who had a mate called Steve - who lived and worked locally.. good lads one and all..

Haha! You guys are hilarious. I have had a right laugh reading this thread. I am new to mines, though I have been into exploring other stuff for a long time.

Wormster you sound like someone I would like to meet at lunch time. Thats what I call proper exploring food!

aye and the fungus growths from the food scraps were huge and amazing to look at,it was good fun in the dingy in the blue lake too.

Steves still about & very active in Alderley & our dig in the Peak - very strong & a super timberman. Nigel's still very active I believe but I don't know him personaly.

We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......
